JAMB gives update on 2017/2018 admission process

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board,
JAMB, on Sunday, said it would partner with
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct
public examination through Computer Based
Test, CBT, for Nigerians abroad.
The examination board also said universities
that charged more than N2,000 from applicants
for its post-UTME examination will be made to
refund the excess payment.
JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian
Benjamin, made these known in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in
Abuja.
Mr. Benjamin said that the collaboration was to
enhance the conduct of Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination, UTME, for foreign
candidates in 2018.
He said 2017 UTME was conducted for foreign
candidates on September 30 in Gambia, Saudi
Arabia, United Kingdom, Ghana, Ivory Coast,
Benin Republic, Ethiopia, South Africa and
Cameroun.
According to him, although the conduct of the
examination was not justifiable, in terms of
monetary value, there is need for JAMB to
collaborate, to promote growth in the education
sector.

“We are already promoting CBT in line with
international best practices; we have taken it
to some countries in Africa, we need to do
more to encourage the practice.
“We have even gone ahead to see how we can
put some countries on the global map by
conducting our public examination there
through CBT.
“What we want to do is to partner with the
ministry to be able to key into the global
technology revolution as part of our foreign
policy.
“We must be able to maximise profit, especially
from West African countries that we are
offering assistance, through scholarship, to
school in Nigeria.
“We cannot achieve much by looking at things
from naira and kobo, but through diplomatic
relations there will be adequate room to gain
through conduct of examination abroad,” he
said.
The head of public relations explained that
foreign candidates sat for examination in one
session based on local time of their various
countries, adding that the questions were
deployed from the Board’s headquarters.
He decried message on the social media that
the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had
directed the refund of post UTME fee,
describing the information as false and could
create confusion in the public domain.
Mr. Benjamin urged the public to disregard the
information, saying that institutions that had
charged more than N2,000 would be asked to
make refund of the excess.
He described as unfortunate a situation where
some institutions could not adhere to the
minister’ directive about the payment of post-
UTME.

#Cityguru: HOW TO SURVIVE HEART ATTACK!

Confirmed Autopsy.
Stephen Keshi died of cardiac arrest. Please read this tips from a  Cardiologist. It takes you just 2mins.

1. Let’s say it’s 7.25pm and you’re going home (alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job.

2. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated.

3. Suddenly you start experiencing SEVERE PAIN IN YOUR CHEST that starts to drag out into your arm and up in to your jaw. Yet you are about 3 km from the hospital nearest to your location.

4. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far.

5. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy who taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself.

6 HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE?
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only
about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

7. However, these victims can help themselves by:
      i. coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.
ii. a deep breath should be taken before each cough
iii. the cough must be deep and prolonged (as in when trying to produce sputum from deep inside the chest).
iv. Continue the breathe deep and hard cough repeatedly about every two seconds without letting-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

POINTS TO NOTE:
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs, while coughing
movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives!! May be a life of a beloved.

The cardiologist says If everyone who gets this mail can kindly sends it to 10 people, or/and circulate it on your social media profiles, you can be sure that many lives of our beloved would be saved.

What is hypertension: risk factors , types, categories and solutions.

Hypertension is common. However, despite being common, a lot of people aren’t fully aware of what it is, what damages it can cause, and why it happens. Affecting about 75 million Americans and killing about 41,000 Americans in 2014, it’s important to draft the right nursing care plan for hypertension. This will help ensure that patients’ individual needs are met and proper care is delivered.

What Is Hypertension?
Hypertension is more commonly known as high blood pressure. It happens when the pressure of your blood that gets pumped through your arteries goes beyond the norm and what the body can handle.

Because there are usually no signs and symptoms, hypertension is popularly called as the “silent killer”. As patients don’t feel any dramatic change in how they feel, the constant pressure in the arteries usually ends up causing serious damage and health problems.

The list includes:
Heart attack
Metabolic syndrome
Heart failure
Aneurysm
Narrowing and weakening of the blood vessels in the kidneys
Narrowing and weakening of the blood vessels in the eyes
Issues with memory
Hypertension can happen in one of three adults worldwide. Middle aged men who are around 45 years of age frequently develop the condition. And it’s not just the adults who can have high blood pressure.

Children who are inactive, living an unhealthy lifestyle and those who are obese can be hypertensive, too.

Other risk factors for hypertension include:
Race
It’s been established that people with dark skin are more predisposed to getting high blood pressure than those who have pale skin.

Age
As you age, the walls of the arteries become less and less flexible. This prevents the walls of the arteries from opening effectively as they should. This greatly increases peripheral resistance.

Genetics
Having people in the family with hypertension increases your likelihood of developing it, too.

Diet
Having too much salt as well as having too little potassium in your daily diet can cause your blood pressure to be constantly elevated. Drinking too much alcohol counts, too.

Obesity
Weighing more means needing more oxygen to supply nutrients and oxygen to your tissues. This increase in demand also increases the pressure on the artery walls.

Types of Hypertension
There are two major types of hypertension.

Essential hypertension
Essential hypertension is when you have a high blood pressure reading in three or more visit to the doctor. This is after all possible causes of hypertension have been ruled out.

It’s typical for patients with essential hypertension to not experience any symptoms. However, there are patients who experience frequent headaches, dizziness and tiredness.

Secondary hypertension
Secondary hypertension refers to high blood pressure caused by other medical conditions, like diseases that affect the kidneys, endocrine system and heart. In some cases, one can also develop it during pregnancy.

Categories of Hypertension
Doctors usually categorize blood pressure into the following:
Normal blood pressure-120/80 mmHg and lower
Prehypertension- 120-139 / 80-89 mmHg
Stage 1 hypertension- 140-159 / 90-99 mmHg
Stage 2 hypertension- 160 / 100 mmHg or higher

Hypertension Nursing Care Plans
If you are caring for a hypertensive patient, you need to be thorough in planning your care. To help you get started, here are some of the essential nursing care plans for hypertension you need to prepare.

1. Activity intolerance
May be related to
-Imbalance between oxygen supply and demand
-Generalized weakness
-Sedentary lifestyle

Possibly evidenced by
-Exertional discomfort
-Abnormal blood pressure in response to activity
-Verbal report of fatigue

Desired outcomes
-Demonstrate a decrease in physiological signs of intolerance
-Participate in desired activity
-Use identified techniques to enhance activity tolerance
-Report an increase in physical activity

2. Knowledge, deficient regarding condition, treatment plan and lifestyle changes
May be related to
-Information misinterpretation
-Unfamiliarity with information resources
-Lack of knowledge
-Denial of diagnosis

Possibly evidenced by
-Verbalization of the problem
-Statements reflecting misconceptions
-Request for information

Desired outcomes
-Verbalize understanding of condition/disease process and treatment
-Initiate necessary lifestyle changes and participate in treatment regimen
-Exhibit increased interest/assume responsibility for own health
-Maintain blood pressure within normal range

3. Imbalanced nutrition: more than body requirements
May be related to
-Excessive intake in relationship to metabolic need
-Sedentary lifestyle

As evidenced by
-Weight 20% over ideal for height and frame
-Triceps skin fold greater than 15 mm in men and 25 mm in Women
-Weight 10% over ideal for height and frame
-Reports of dysfunctional eating patterns

Desired outcomes
-Demonstrate appropriate changes in lifestyle and behaviors, including eating patterns, food quantity/quality, and exercise Program
-Attain desirable body weight

#Amazing: Obasanjo Names Lion Cub “Aremu” for #1 million

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
has adopted one of the three newborn
lion cubs inside the new Olusegun
Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL),
Abeokuta Wildlife Park, christening the
animal ‘ Aremu ’, his traditional name .
The OOPL Wildlife Park is a section of
the presidential library , which houses
over 140 indigenous and exotic animals .
It was set up to encourage wildlife
conservation, educate the general
public, promote tourism and also
support research.
In a release by his media aide , Kehinde
Akinyemi , Obasanjo’s naming of the cub
also attracted a one million naira
donation for the animal ’ s upkeep , with
a call on Nigerians to come to the aid of
some animal species that face extinction
in the nearest future.
The former president, who spoke
through the Managing Director of OOPL
Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, at the opening
ceremony of the Wildlife Park and
Animal ADOPTION (Animals Depend On
People Too), said the name adoption of
the animals in the park was aimed at
recruiting individual and corporate
partners who would support the park in
providing the financial resources for the
preservation and care of animals that
are on the brink of extinction as a
result of increased human activities.
The national president, National
Association of Zoo And Parks (NAZAP ),
Dr. Morenikeji Olajumoke , urged the
government to brace up to the
challenges facing wildlife in the
country , hinting that at present , some
species face extinction in the country ,
“ and , we must do something to it fast,
because of their benefits to humanity
too .
“ Among the animals that are facing
extinction is the Pangolin otherwise
known as bush meat (eran ‘ gbe).
Already in China, we cannot find it
anymore and they are shifting attention
to Africa , particularly in Nigeria . And
this is an animal that eliminates about
70 million pests in our forests annually.
So, if we do not quickly address this, the
pests will be available to destroy our
forests too ,” she said .

President Buhari 57th independence address 2017

- As Nigeria celebrates its 57th
Independence celebration on October 1,
2017, President has addressed the nation
- In his speech he thanked Nigerians for
their support and said it was important to
remember the journey of Nigeria
- He also spoke on the fight against
corruption and the progresses his
government has made
President Muhammadu Buhari is
currently addressing Nigerians live on
national television today, October 1
At 7:00am, President Buhari began by
saying: "October 1st remains an
important date for all Nigerians, as the
day we attained one of the most
important desire of humans -freedom. It
is day for celebration and rededication."

He also said: "The PDP government
squandered the government's resources
and we were left with no savings and
depleted infrastructure deficit."
Speaking on the APC campaign, he said:
"The APC government’s campaign
rallying cry to restore security, re-
balance the economy and fight
corruption was not all rhetoric.
"The country must first be secured. The
economy must be re-balanced so that we
do not depend on oil alone. We must
fight corruption which is Nigeria’s
number one enemy. Our administration
is tackling these tasks in earnest.
At 7:04am, speaking on the agitations
and calls for restructuring, he said:
"Many irresponsible groups are calling
for a rerun of the civil war, those doing
this were not born by 1967.
"As a young Army Officer, I took part
from the beginning to the end in our
tragic civil war costing about 2m lives,
resulting in fearful destruction and
untold suffering. Those who are
agitating for a re-run were not born by
1967 and have no idea of the horrendous
consequences of the civil conflict which
we went through.
"I am very disappointed that responsible
leaders of these communities do not
warn their hot-headed youths what the
country went through. Those who were
there should tell those who were not
there, the consequences of such folly."
President Buhari also said: We have
increased funding to homegrown school
feeding programme
"We expected the fight against
corruption to be difficult, we expected
corrupt people to fight back, we have
done our best to fight, including using
the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
"Justice Malami has been appointed to
help improve the judiciary and sancytion
any udges found corrupt.
"Fighting coruption is important. I call
on all Nigerians to fight corruption by
refusing and not asking for bribes and
also by whistle blowing.
"As we enter the second term, we intend
to accelerate progress. Thank you and
happy holidays. God bless our country."
